This is so true. Having a strategy for an exam can really make a difference in the performance. Reading notes mindlessly may not be worth the time. Rather, focusing on strategic approach to find the appropriate resource to best get your outcome may be more effective. When I was doing research, my mentor used to tell me that one hour of due diligence of figuring out what has been done in the past by other labs can save me 24 hours of benchwork time. The same is probably true for studying. Studying in the right way that will maximize performance will require fewer hours.
